An Environment can be defined as 'The surroundings and conditions in which an organization operates, including living systems (human and others) therein. As the environmental effects of the organization may reach all parts of the world, the environment in this context extends from within the work place to the global system'. (BS 7750 : 1992).
While, Environmental Management is 'The management of environmental factors to enable human activities to exist productively and compatibly alongside, and enhance where practical , other global and life sustaining processes, in a beneficial , sustainable and harmonious synthesis for future generations'. (The RICS 1993 B). Environmental management are those aspects of the full management functions of (Forecasting, Planning, Organizing, Controlling, Coordinating, and Commanding) that develop, implement or maintain the environmental policy.
Environmental policy can be regarded as 'A public statement of the intentions and principles of action for the organization regarding its environmental effects, giving rise to its objectives and targets.
Environmental management Audit is also another technique of a systematic evaluation to determine whether or not the environmental management system and its operations and results comply with the planned arrangements, and whether or not the system is implemented effectively, and is suitable to fulfill the organization's policy and objectives.
Environmental issues are the issues of climate i.e, the effects of man's actions upon the climate.Such as, misuse of climate and non-sustainable felling of trees contributing to the green house effects.Contaminated land, health and safety, pollution, energy, visual aspects, grazing lands and reserves, cattle routes, habitat for wild life,land cleaning up, land reclamation, sustainability, ground water,transport,historical culture and heritage, environmental labellings, environmental assessment, industrial processes, power stations, noise, vibrations, fumes and dust, motor ways,lead in vehicle exhaust, chemicals in drinking water and lead poison in minerals exploration and mining operations.
